Reflections in Tea
Artist Michele Brody will be creating a temporary installation of her exhibit, Reflections In Tea, at the Coffee & Tea Festival Atlantic City. The installation made of tea stained bags on which fellow tea drinkers have written their thoughts, captures the tradition of tea. As Bonnie Rosenstock of The Villager wrote, “Brody has combined the ritual of preparing and serving tea and spiked it with her own special admixture: repurposing tea-soaked bags as writing paper to stimulate a community share fest.” We couldn’t agree more!
Brody was able to create the tea house through a generous donation of loose leaf teas and elongated German-made “t-sacs” by serendipiTea of Manhasset, NY. The sacs are important to the exhibition because they are made from abaca, a very strong fiber from the inside of a banana tree. Brody explained, “They can take getting wet and still retain their paper form. I let them dry out and iron them flat to become writing paper.” Once the sac becomes writing paper, it is approximately seven-inch-long by four-inch-wide with earth-toned stain patterns.
Tea enthusiasts are invited to participate in the exhibit by sitting on a
carpet of re-purposed t-sacs and sharing a cup of tea with Brody inside of
her teahouse made of copper pipe and stories. Your thoughts and memories
will become a part of the exhibit after creating your own tea bag while
sharing conversation with Michele within this unique Tea Experience.
